Mastercard taps WE Communications for global corporate communications

Mastercard has selected WE Communications to manage its global corporate communications following a competitive six-month agency review, ending a multi-decade partnership with Omnicom-owned agency Ketchum.

WE Communications will initially handle Mastercard's enterprise-level communications, focusing on storytelling and stakeholder engagement around the payment giant's ongoing expansions into artificial intelligence, data analytics, agentic commerce, and cybersecurity. Additional regional workstreams and specialized scopes are scheduled to roll out in phases across the agency’s global network.

The account will be led by Lindsey Bastani, head of WE Communications' global technology practice.

"We have a talented communications team—people with strong instincts, deep knowledge of our business, and a real commitment to telling stories that matter," said Jen Erickson, executive vice president of communications at Mastercard. "With WE Communications, we’re writing the next chapter, bringing fresh thinking and energy to engage with the people and businesses that rely on Mastercard every day around the world."

Bastani highlighted the account's technical focus, noting the agency will translate complex subjects—such as global transaction data, automated commerce, and digital security—into accessible narratives for audiences ranging from software developers to corporate executives.

The account shift marks another significant client departure for Ketchum, which recently lost its North American communications account with fast-food giant Wendy's to Ruder Finn after another long-standing agency-client relationship ended.
