Health tech company OURA has appointed Jessica Makin to lead communications across the Asia-Pacific region, as the company expands its presence in a fast-growing wearable health market.

Makin joins OURA after almost seven years at Amazon Australia, where she most recently served as Head of Communications for Australia and Singapore. Her move comes as OURA continues to broaden its health technology proposition beyond wearable tracking and strengthen its international footprint.

Her appointment was reported on 20 August 2026, with Makin confirming her move from Amazon to OURA.

Makin brings more than two decades of communications experience spanning agency and in-house roles. Before Amazon, her career included senior communications and public relations positions associated with Scentre Group, David Jones and One Green Bean. Her experience covers corporate, consumer and brand communications, as well as media relations.

The appointment comes at an important point in OURA's international expansion. In March, the company launched its smart ring in Australia, New Zealand, India, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates, opening four new markets as it sought to expand its global member base.

OURA subsequently introduced the Oura Ring 5 in May, describing it as its smallest smart ring, with the new generation 40% smaller and featuring next-generation sensing and up to a week of battery life. The device became available in Australia in June.

The company has also been expanding its software and health capabilities. OURA said in May that it was on pace to surpass five million paid members, with membership having grown more than fourfold over two years. It has increasingly positioned itself as a health intelligence platform, adding capabilities around women's health, metabolic health and personalised insights.

In May, OURA also announced a confidential submission of a draft registration statement for a proposed initial public offering, although the timing and terms of any listing remain subject to market and regulatory conditions.

Makin's appointment therefore places an experienced communications leader in charge of APAC messaging at a time when OURA is entering new markets, expanding its product proposition and moving towards a broader connected-health model.

For Amazon, Makin's departure follows a period in which she led communications around major business initiatives in Australia and Singapore. As recently as June, she was involved in communications around Amazon Australia's planned $750m investment in a robotics fulfilment centre in Queensland.
